Anglesey Marathon
The programme included junior races as well as a 5k, 10k, half-marathon and full marathon, with the 26.2-mile race incoporating the Welsh Masters and North Wales championships for the first time. In the 10k the ever-improving Sian Beck clocked 44.13 to finish as third lady overall and Julie Logan sliced a massive three minutes off her personal best in 52.22. Three members turned out in the marathon and all three had superb outings. Dean Longley was 3rd overall and 2nd in the championship with a time of 2:56.59 and Matthew Anwyl was immediately behind him, placing him 3rd in the championship and 1st in the M35 category of the Welsh championship. The only lady taking part was Sharon Jones, who recorded an excellent 4:29.38. Meanwhile super-vet Steve Hatfield chalked up yet another half-marathon, this time in the Croxby Crippler, in Lincolnshire. Not only was the course tough but, unlike Anglesey, the weather was miserable. Steve, who was running for his second-claim club Cleethorpes, still clocked 1-45. Tickets are now available for the barn dance to be held on November 27 and again featuring the ceilidh band Mooncoin. |
