Chester Half 2011

PRESTATYN Running Club will once again host a North Wales championship event next week when some of the region's top runners will come to Rhyl for the annual Sun Centre 5k.

The event on May 25 incorporates the championship for the fifth time, and - wind permitting - the promenade course offers the chance to record fast times.

Race organiser Jason Burton stressed, however, that less competitive runners and joggers need not be deterred as runners of all standards will be welcomed.

Last year a 1,000-metre race for juniors was introduced and proved so popular that it is being repeated. The junior race will be at 6.30pm, 45 minutes before the 5k. Once again the race is sponsored by Rhyl Town Council, Clwyd Leisure Ltd and Anwyl Construction.

Chester Half Marathon

Seven club members were among the 2,500-strong field in Sunday's Shell Chester half-marathon, with Matthew Anwyl leading the squad home in 35th place overall with a time of 1-21.53. Other placings were: 389 Anna Lewis 1-38.33, 415 Mike Lindsay 1-38.41, 507 Des Davies 1-42.07, 1,034 Paul Das 1-51.39, 1,146 Sharon Jones 1-53.26, 2,108 Jenny Harrowby 2-33.10.

On Saturday David Owen once again took to the hills and was the club's sole representative in the Moel Eilio race in Llanberis. He finished in 1-7.20 for third place in the M60 class.

This Saturday, for the first time, the club will field a team in the L45 class at the British Masters' Road Relays in Sutton Park, Birmingham. Unfortunately it has proved impossible to field men's teams due to other commitments.

Sharon Jones has been named as the club's Runner of the Month for April, largely on the strength of her run in the London Marathon, when she sliced six minutes off her personal best.

On June 5 the club will be holding its annual relay competition on the Tip Lane circuit, and on the 18th the club will have a social run at Gwrych Castle, meeting at the main gates at 6.45pm.

It has been decided to enter teams in the relay competition of the annual Man v Horse multi-terrain race at Llanwrtyd Wells on June 11 and anyone interested is asked to notify Phil Jones as soon as possible.
