North Wales 10 2011

THE courses could hardly have been more different, but once again it was the ladies of Prestatyn Running Club who shone in two different events last week.

In the Dinas Bran fell-race in Llangollen ladies' captain Glenda Davies led a trio of members home in 41.40, followed exactly one minute behind by Brenda Tiedtke, who won the L45 class. Super-vet Phil Jones made up the trio in 46.00

Three days later Glenda took to the hills again in the Llangynhafal Loop race in the Clwydian Hills, which was a counter in the club's Grand Prix, and was again one of only three club representatives.

Neil Owen was the first of the three over the 4.75-mile course, which involved 1,750 feet of climbing. He clocked 50.52, and was followed by David Owen in 61.34 and Glenda in 64.24. She was second in the L50 category..

Christleton 5k

By coincidence, yet another different trio turned out in the Christleton 5k road race, which, as always, produced fast times.

Russ Cheetham set off at a very optimistic pace and paid the price in the closing stages, but still managed a highly creditable 20.47. Shelley Ward, maintaining the form which saw her clock 3-58 in the London Marathon, set a new pb of 31.57 to take second place in the L40 category, and the last of the trio was Sian Beck, who was also pleased with her time of 22.05.

Griff Owens claimed yet another award when he won the M60 class at the Muller 10k in Market Drayton on Sunday. He was 23rd overall in a 1,200-strong field with a time of 37.31, and George Nicholls was just four places further back in 38.00.

On June 5 the club will be holding its annual relay competition on the Tip Lane circuit, and on the 18th the club will have a social run at Gwrych Castle, meeting at the main gates at 6.45pm.

It has been decided to enter teams in the relay competition of the annual Man v Horse multi-terrain race at Llanwrtyd Wells on June 11 and anyone interested is asked to notify Phil Jones as soon as possible.
