Steve Hatfield clocks 97th Half

PRESTATYN Running Club’ super-vet Steve Hatfield moved a step closer to his “ton-up” when he competed in the Vyrnwy Half-Marathon on Sunday.


It was his 97th “half”, and despite not being back to full fitness he celebrated his recent move into the M65 class by clocking 1-44.48 for third place in the category..


Matthew Anwyl was the first of the club’s runners home, finishing 35th in 1-19.59. Anna Lewis, in training for the Snowdon Marathon, had a morale-boosting outing, recording an excellent 1-38.40, while Eleri Goddard, who turned out despite being a long way off full fitness, clocked 1-58.55.


12k Ras Fawr Llanddoged

Four members travelled to the Conwy Valley for the 12k Ras Fawr Llanddoged, which has a dauntingly tough uphill start. Dean Longley finished fifth overall in 49.14 and he was followed by George Nicholls, 17th in 55.47.

Russ Cheetham continued his comeback, finishing 26th in 60.17, and Shelley Ward tok the L40 prize with a time of 67.49

Two more outstanding runs by super-vet Griff Owens in the Sale 10 and Birchwood 10k have earned him the club’s Runner of the Month title again for August.

Despite having been out of competitive action for a while Glenda Davies still led the club’s Grand Prix competition before the Llanddoged race, with George Nicholls just five points behind and Dean Longley catching up fast.

The leading placings were: Glenda Davies 131 points from 8 races, George Nicholls 126/10, Dean Longley 125/8, Brenda Tiedtke 95/7, Gordon Jones 92/5, Shelley Ward 89/5, Sharon Jones 78/7, Des Davies 78/8, David Owen 64/7, Steve Hatfield 60/8.

Forthcoming races in the competition are the North Wales Cross-Country League fixtures on October 1 and 22, the Flintshire 10k on October 9 and the Abergele 5 on November 6.

Volunteers are sought to help at the 24-hour race in Llandudno on September 23-24 which is the Commonwealth Championship. Anyone available is asked to contact Gareth Hughes on 01745 – 888078 as soon as possible.
George Nicholls was next home in 48th place with 41.20, and the ever-improving David Owen was 132nd in 50.30.
