Moel Famau Mountain Race 2011

Report from Dean Longley

With some of the Prestatyn Running Club ladies focusing on longer runs and others on the way back from injury it was up to the men to fly the flag in the Moel Famau Mountain race which is part of the annual Cilcain show near Mold.

165 runners turned out for the event and although only four men from Prestatyn took part all had good outings in the tough 4.6 mile course which ascended to the summit of Moel Famau.

Dean Longley, who managed to lose his road shoes on the morning of the race struggled on the slippery mud on parts of the descent but was pleased with his position of 15th in a time of 37:15.

Just two places behind Dean was Matt Anwyl who despite admitting to drinking a few beverages until the early hours of Monday morning still managed to finish in a great time of 37:38.

George Nicholls was next taking part in his first fell race in 6 years! He settled back in quickly to the style of fell racing finishing in 41:20 for 48th position. David Owen who has completed in many fell races this year completed the quartet but will not doubt be in trouble for not wearing his club vest! David finished in a superb 50:30 for 132nd place
