Deestriders off Road series

Report from Dean Longley

Not for the first time this year it was the Prestatyn running club ladies who stole the show in the Deestriders Off Road Series with 4 women picking up prizes and Steve Hatfield the only male prize winner.

It was a PRC 1st and 2nd in the F40 section with Shelly Ward in fantastic form at the moment winning the group closely followed by Sharon Jones who also has a brilliant series. Although she was on holiday for the final outing Brenda Tiedtke had done enough in the previous races to win the F45 group following some superb runs earlier in the summer (PLEASE CHECK).

The most celebrated win was for Women’s captain Glenda Davies who is still on the road to recovery following surgery not long ago, Glenda was just pleased to be back running again in the final fixture which won her the F50 trophy. (PLEASE CHECK). Steve Hatfield had an outstanding last race which cemented his 3rd place in the M60s. (PLEASE CHECK)

In the final fixture it was a case of misdirection for some members, as the local yobs thought it was amusing to guide them the wrong way! Russ Cheetham and George Nicholls amongst others did end up being fooled but found that it actually was a short cut so not much complaining was done. That is until Russ got lost in the woods and so had to wait for guidance from other runners (Shelly and Steve who used this as a chance to gain some ground on Russ) the confusion being blamed on the ‘Welsh’ directions (it was tape!). He did however  manage to get back into his stride and hold of both Shelly and Steve who themselves had a close race with the Steve edging it on this occasion as he smashed last month’s time by almost 3 minutes!

Dean Longley led the team home taking another minute of from his time last month despite being outsprinted by Helsby’s Adair Broughton with less than 100m to go. George Nicholls was disappointed with his time even though it was his second fastest on the course this year only 3 days after running a fell race.

Des Davies was pleased with his performance and rightly so as he knocked over 20 seconds off from last month’s time with a little help from some ladies from Warrington.

Glenda Davies was just glad to be running again and despite only three training runs prior to the race managed to finish first in the F50 on the night. Completing the team was Sharon Jones who although in her words had a ‘bummer’ of a race was still 2nd F40 on the night and for the series. Well done to all especially those lovely ladies who showed us men up again and I don’t  mean Shelly getting chatted up by random men AGAIN!

Times and positions for last race.

Dean Longley 29:51 (7th), George Nicholls 32:11 (16th), Des Davies 35:25 (36th), Russ Cheetham 38:33 (49th), Steve Hatfield 38:51 (53rd, 3rd M60), Shelly Ward 39:01 (56th, 1st F40), Glenda Davies 42:12 (63rd, 1st F50) Sharon Jones 43:24 (67th, 2nd F40)
