Deestriders August 2011

PRESTATYN Running Club’s two in-form veteran ladies Shelley Ward and Brenda Tiedtke had their own personal duel in the Deestriders Off-Road Grand Prix race in Shotton.

Shelley had just returned from holiday and Brenda had had a long bike ride that morning, but they both worked hard over the five-mile course, with victory going to the former.

Dean Longley again led the contingent home and was about a minute faster than in the previous race. Details of performances were not available at the time of going to press, but the club’s other finishers were George Nicholls, Des Davies, Steve Hatfield and Sharon Jones.

Griff Owens, who has been suffering with a knee injury, had to settle for second place in the M60 class at Sunday’s Sale 10 but still clocked an excellent 62 minutes exactly. George Nicholls was 53rd overall in 63.43.

The club’s over-70s trio of Ronald and Roger Harrison-Jones and Dave Hughes had yet another tussle in the Gobowen 5-miler, with Roger this time overhauling his brother to claim victory. He clocked 39.49, finishing 21 seconds ahead of Ronald, and Dave was the third of the trio in 40.49.

Once again David Owen was the club’s only representative in the Garn fell-race at Rhyd Ddu and he finished 27th overall in 51.31.
