George Nicholls Leads Grand Prix

WITH Glenda Davies having missed a couple of races through illness George Nicholls has now established a healthy lead at the top of Prestatyn Running Club’s Grand Prix table.

Club captain Glenda Davies  - another to end the end year struggling with illness – lead the L50 class for the same four distances

There is still time, however,  for both Glenda and third-placed Dean Longley to make up ground, with seven qualifying races over the next two months.

The leading places are: George Nicholls 234 points from 18 races, Glenda Davies 177/13, Dean Longley 170/11, Shelley Ward 155/10, Griff Owens 129/8, Brenda Tiedtke 123/10, Sharon Jones 122/13, Gordon Jones 92/5, Russ Cheetham 90/10, Jo McDonough 86/6, Des Davies 78/8, David Owen 74/9, Sian Beck 72/6, Gay Waring 65/6, Paul Brandrick 59/9, Katie Brandrick 56/6.

Forthcoming Qualifying Races

Forthcoming qualifying races are: January 8, Borders League, Abergele; January 14, NWCC League, Telford; January 21Twin Piers 10k, Colwyn Bay; February 4, NWCC League, Oswestry; February 19, Village Bakery half-marathon, Wrexham; February 26, Borders League, Wrecsam Tri; March 11, Borders League, Helsby.

The two  Owens were the club’s only representatives in the Jubilee Plunge, a downhill race from the summit of Moel Famau to Llangynhafal on Boxing Day.


Neil Owen, who has not competed for several months, was 21st overall in 14.53, with his namesake David just two places and 10 seconds behind.
