AFTER several weeks without competition there was a chance to return to action on Sunday but only three members of Prestatyn Running Club turned out in the Helena Tipping 10k in Wrexham.

Nevertheless, it was a case of “many happy returns” for club captain Glenda Davies, who took first prize in the L50 class with a time of 46.35.

Equally pleased was Sharon Jones, whose time of 53.03 was a huge personal best, boosting her confidence for the forthcoming London Marathon. The only male representative was George Nicholls, whose time of just over 39 minutes gave him fifth place in the M40 class.

Volunteers are still being sought to help at the North Wales Cross-Country Championships in Rhug, Corwen, on January 29, which the club is organising.

It now seems unlikely that the Riverbank Run in Rhuddlan, which incorporates the Eddie Faure Memorial 10k, will go ahead this year. Phil Jones has stepped down after organising the event for 13 years and no-one has yet come forward to t ake over the reins.

The club committee has decided to apply for a place in this year’s Welsh Castles Relay, to be held on June 11-12, but it will not be known until March whether we will once again be in the line-up.
