Liverpool Half Marathon

SIX members of Prestatyn Running Club were among the 8,000 starters in Sunday’s Liverpool half-marathon and all had good reason to be pleased with their results.

Anna Lewis led the six home in a season’s best 1-41.50, with Katie Brandrick, who has been in excellent form recently, just behind in 1-42.15.

Her father Paul, who ran with her all the way, eased back as they approached the finishing line, which he crossed in 1-42.23. Sandy Roberts (L50) was well placed in her category with a time of 1-47.18 and John Jones took almost 10 minutes off his time for the Conwy half-marathon, clocking 2-01.59. Making up the six was the remarkable 83-year-old Eddie Naisby who recorded an amazing 2-10. In fifth place overall was Christian Prior (Chester Tri Club), from Prestatyn, who crossed the line in 72.05.

Welsh Castles Relay

The club received the good news this week that they will be competing in this year’s Welsh Castles Relay in June. Prestatyn missed out in the draw last year, having supported the event for over 20 years, but they will be among 59 clubs lining up for the two-day challenge on June 9 and 10. North Wales will also be represented by Abergele Harriers and Denbigh Harriers, who will field a Masters’ team. Club officials would like to hear as soon as possible from members interested in taking part.

The club’s annual meeting will be held on March 30 at the North Wales Indoor Bowls Centre and chairman Arwel Jones said he hoped for a good attendance from old and new members.

Runner of the Month

Gabby Waring has been named as Runner of the Month for February after her outstanding run in the Borders Road-Running League in Mold in which she led the women’s team home.

Junior Sessions to Start Again

Youngsters from throughout the area are being urged to come along to the newly relaunched junior sessions which are held on Thursday evening at Prestatyn Leisure Centre. Primary school children attend from 5pm – 6pm and the older group from 6pm – 7pm.

Following the positive feedback from the recent Marsh Tracks 5k it has been decided to have another race at the venue later in the year, either in late August or early September.

At last week’s committee meeting George Nicholls, Duncan Longley, Russ Cheetham and David Owen were nominated as Most Improved Male Runner of the Year and Erin Ross, Sharon Jones, Katie Brandrick and Alison Hill for nominated as Most Improved Female. The winners will be announced at the annual prizegiving and social on April 14.
