Man v horse
TWELVE members of Prestatyn Running Club took on a new challenge in the hills of Powys at the weekend and despite the mud, rain and tough course had a thoroughly good time. The four teams of three took part in the 31st Man v Horse Marathon at Llanwrtyd Wells, where 50 riders, 111 relay teams and over 300 individuals competed over a very hilly 22-mile multi-terrain course. Each of the three stages included some tarmac, farm tracks, forest trails, open mountainside – and a lot of mud, culminating in a river crossing just before the finish.
Park Hall 5k Three of the club’s super-vets renewed their friendly rivalry in last week’s Park Hall 5k in Oswestry, and this time Ronald Harrison-Jones gained revenge over his brother Roger who beat him in the recent Sun Centre 5k.
Annual Relays Three teams of five took part in the club’s annual relays on the Tip Lane circuit, with the squad of Callum Smith, Sandy Roberts, Paul Das, Gay Waring and Iwan Jones coming out victorious in 30.57. Mike Lindsay, Shelly Ward, Duncan Longley, Gareth Hughes and Oliver Harrison-Jones came next in 31.16 and Gareth Bailey, Mel Hooper, John Jones, Sian Beck and Amie Bagnall third in 33.15. The fastest stage was run by Oliver Harrison-Jones in 5.18. R The club is hoping to have another outing to the Gravy Run near Glossop on July 17 after last year’s trip was enjoyed by all who travelled. Anyone interested is asked to let Gareth Hughes know as soon as possible.
