Super-vet Roger Harrison-Jones, glad to be back after injury, competed in the M70 class, while his son Gareth had his first cross-country outing for the club, and grandson Oliver was in the U20 category and led the men’s team home.

It proved to be a tough outing for all three as the Oswestry course was extremely muddy – so muddy, in fact, that Callum Smith, running in the U17s’ race, left one of his trainers behind in the quagmire. Despite that, he had a very good run, as did another teenager, Amie Bagnall, who was first home in the U17 category.

The bad weather meant that some stalwarts including club captain Glenda Davies were unable to reach the venue, so only two Prestatyn ladies turned out.

Gordon Jones has been named as the club’s runner of the month for January after good runs in both the cross-country league and North Wales championships, being placed in the top three in the M50 class in both events.

Consistency paid off for several members, with four of them picking up trophies over the season. Dave Hughes collected yet another award by winning the M70 class in which he was undefeated, Steve Hatfield, who completed the Oswestry course despite a back injury, took the M60 title, George Nicholls was equal third in the M40 category, George Nixon equal second in the M55s and Amie Bagnall third U17

This Sunday it’s back to road duty and the fourth fixture of the Borders League at Christleton.
