New experience for Prestatyn Running Club

THE weekend provided a new experience for about 15 Prestatyn Running Club members when they acted as recorders at the Commonwealth 24-hour championships in Llandudno, and despite having to learn quickly everyone did a superb job.

Club secretary Gareth Hughes, who was charged with co-ordinating the entire recording team in four-hour shifts throughout the race, said that national officials had commented on the large number of local volunteers and the enthusiasm they had shown.

The next event for which volunteers are being sought is the opening fixture of the Borders Road-Running League which the club is hosting on October 16.

Andrew Jones in Sutton 10k

In last week’s Sutton 10k Andrew Jones finished 33rd overall in 37.49 and super-vet David Owen clocked 48.15, the day after he competed in the Llyn Brenig race.

This Saturday sees the opening of the cross-country season with the first fixture in the Grand Prix Express North Wales League in Bangor, and the men will be keen to secure promotion to Division 1 after coming close in the past two seasons.

Club captains Dean Longley and Glenda Davies are appealing to all members, including those who have never tried the discipline before, to help ensure a good turnout and provide strength in depth.
