Steve Hatfield Member of the Year

LONG-SERVING treasurer and membership secretary Steve Hatfield has been chosen as Prestatyn Running Club’s Member of the Year for the fifth time.

He was elected at the club’s annual social at St Melyd Golf Club after a total of 10 members had ben nominated for their contribution to the club over the past year. The others were Glenda Davies, Arwel Jones, Gareth Hughes, Gill Brandrick, Jason Burton, Mike Doolan, Chris Hayes, Eleri Jones and Griff Owens.

Chris Hayes and Shelley Ward were named as the most improved runners of the year and Duncan Longley and Amie Bagnall received the Captains’ Awards. Oliver Harrison-Jones was the New Member of the Year and Phil Jones Fellrunner of the Year

Ladies’ Captain Glenda Davies was once again an easy winner of the club’s Grand Prix and the category winners were:- junior lady, Amie Bagnall; senior lady, Sian Beck; L35 Eleri Goddard; L40 Shelley Ward; L45 Glenda Davies; L50 Gay Waring; junior man, Oliver Harrison-Jones; senior man, Dean Longley; M35, Matthew Anwyl; M40, George Nicholls; M45, Tony Benton; M50, Des Davies; M55, Neil Owen; M60, Steve Hatfield; M65, Phil Jones; M70, Dave Hughes.



Only one member was in competitive action at the weekend, and that was latest recruit Russ Cheetham. He returned to his old stomping ground of Leigh for the Pennington Flash half-marathon and turned in a brilliant performance, knocking 14 minutes off his previous best for the distance to finish in 1-36.28.

Three of the club’s representatives in this year’s London Marathon are raising money for good causes. Shelley Ward is supporting St Kentigern’s Hospice – anyone wishing to contribute can do so through the website justgiving – Sharon Jones is raising funds for the Wales Air Ambulance and Kidney Research.

 

Lee Bailey is supporting Marie Curie Cancer Nurses in memory of his father-in-law who passed away recently.


 

 


At the club’s AGM the officers were re-elected en-bloc for the coming year.
