Dave Williams thanks

The following message was received by Gareth from David A Williams, Secretary of the North Wales Cross-Country Association:
Dear Gareth
Just a quick word to thank everyone at Prestatyn Running Club for their tremendous efforts to ensure the success of the Rhug Organic North Wales Cross-Country Championships at Corwen on January 28th, 2012.
For a third successive year your club members, with a little help from volunteers representinbg other clubs from the region, have done us proud and everyone was full of praise for the organisation of the event.
The venue has proved to be an excellent spot for cross-country running with the perfect weather conditions this year making it even better than usual.
It was particularly pleasing that Welsh Athletics’ Steve Brace called in on his way home and he was thrilled with everything he saw and felt the venue was perfect for a national event.
No event can be perfect if the organisation prior to the day and support on the chosen afternoon is not done properly but Prestatyn Running Club have shown once again that they always do everything properly.
I would wish to thank you personally for being at the helm from start to finish and giving up so much of your time to ensure the event’s success but as you and I always say, you must have support in order to succeed.
The North Wales Cross-Country Association is again hugely grateful to Prestatyn Running Club for their support and I would ask you to let your members know at your next meeting that we appreciate all their efforts on our behalf. Diolch yn fawr.”

Message from Gareth

Many thanks to all those members who turned up to help at the North Wales Championships in Rhug. I’m sure you would all agree that the meeting was another huge success and the weather also helped to make it that much more enjoyable.  Special thanks to Chief Marshal Dave Henley who took over so capably from Jason, but everyone played a part in enhancing the club’s established reputation for making a good job of staging such events.  The feedback from athletes and officials has once again been tremendous, with at least 2 or 3 experienced athletes who had not been to Rhug before saying it was one of the best courses they have run.  Especially pleasing was the impact it had on Steve Brace, Director of Athletics Development for Welsh Athletics, who admitted he was very impressed and hinted that he would be happy to see a “major championship” at Rhug in a couple of years’ time.  I’ve been telling him about its potential for a long time.  Many thanks everyone – and also well done to those who took part.  There are pics of the races on Gwynfor James’s “Sportspictures Cymru” website.

Chief Marshall With The Dodgy Knee

Here we are once again in the month of January looking forward to the forthcoming delights of Spring and Summer bringing forth much needed holidays,Olympics,BBQ s,the odd race here and there and plenty of sunshine. But hang on, we surely cannot consider these  things until we have exposed ourselves to the brute of Winter weather at Rhug estate attired with our thermal underwear, woolly hats and a  yellow bin bags with holes for heads and arms. So here I am at  your mercy, this year I have agreed to be Chief Marshall with the dodgy knee and I am therefore pleading for help to make sure this event is an outstanding success once again. So if you are not running and available on the day for marshaling duties please reply to this email or let Gareth know so I can assemble a list of volunteers. If you know anyone else who would like to help please forward their name onto me as well.

Kind Regards

Dave Henley

Chief Marshall With The Dodgy Knee.

P.S. the “bell” will be making an appearance that day and I am looking for a suitable operator (no campanology experience required),

please apply on the day.

Thanks

Just a word of thanks to all members who turned up to help at the 24-hour Commonwealth Championships in Llandudno, which proved to be a fascinating experience for everyone (I think). Once again I was very proud of PRC’s contribution to the success of the event, whilst this time other clubs e.g. Abergele, Buckley, Colwyn Bay and Denbigh did come good to a degree.
It was a very steep learning curve for all concerned, even those from other clubs who have long experience of being recorders, and although it was unfair to throw so many novices int at the deep end with just a 5-minute briefing at the start, everyone coped magnificently.
Very sincere thanks to you all. Gareth

London Marathon

I know it seems an awfully long time off but this is just a reminder to those of you interested in doing next year’s London Marathon to keep your rejection slips. As usual, the club has been allocated two places, the winners of which will be drawn before Christmas. We do have various criteria for entering the drawer, including having been a member for at least 12 months and not having won a club place this year.

Volunteers needed

With just 2 weeks to go I have been lumbered with organising marshals and recorders for the Commonwealth 24-hour race in Llandudno on September 23-24 and I’m desperate for volunteers. We need about 20 at all times throughout the 24 hours from 12 noon on the Friday to noon on the Saturday.
The sessions are divided into 4-hours each, but obviously it’s going to be hard to fill the midnight – 8am slots.
If you’re available please let me know – it’s a unique event and the biggest international athletics event in Wales since the Empre Games in 1958. Be part of it!
Travelling expenses will be paid by Welsh Athletics and there will be refrshments and (wow) a wet-weather poncho!

Let me know. Gareth Hughes 888078

Fetcheveryone.com

Hi everyone, I have decided to switch my training log website from running ahead to www.fetcheveryone.com and it seems much better. You can upload data straight from your Garmin and find routes for races, plot routes etc. It also lets you interact with other runners and PRC has it’s own (very small 3 of us) group which I think we need to make bigger. Hope you find it useful. Dean

Commonwealth champs

Note to all members: On September 23-25 the Commonwealth Ulta-Distance, Mountain Running and Trail Running Champs are being held in North Wales for the first time. It’s only the second time for the champs to be held anywhere. Welsh Athletics will need many marshals for the three events and are very keen to make a good impression internationally. Are you available for any of the events, which will be held alongside open races.
The 24-hour race, starting at noon on the 23rd is in Llandudno, and for officiating purposes will be divided into 4-hour sessions, the mountain-running is in lanberis, and the trail run is in Newborough Forest, Anglesey. It would be nice for Prestatyn RC to back such a prestigious event.
