On Sunday, July 1st, the Scala, Prestatyn, has arranged a special screening of the documentary “Town of Runners”, which is about the small town (same size as Prestatyn) in Ethiopia which has produced many of the world’s top distance runners.
It’s had excellent reviews and we are very grateful to the Scala management for going to the trouble of finding out about it for us and putting on this special showing, so please do your best to support it.
The film starts at 7pm and – just in case you haven’t been to the Scala – it really is a very comfortable cinema and prices are very reasonable compared with many. Bring your family and friends along.
It’d be nice to have some idea of numbers before the event so please give me a ring on 888078. Gareth

As it explains, the aim is to guess the combined times of the men’s and women’s winners in the marathon at the London Olympics. PLEASE ensure that people do fill in hours, minutes AND seconds, otherwise we’ll probably have loads of entries with exactly the same time. Thanks. Gareth.

25/02/2012/Ras Moel y Ci/5 miles/950 ft

Once again conditions were excellent overhead, but the course had the usual hazards to overcome, the initial hard climb, road, tracks, downhill through the muddy rocky section with trees roots to negotiate, finish with running through a stream with its stones and yet more roots to avoid, at least there was gentle track run in to finish.

I was quite pleased with my effort being the first race in 10 months, although I ran out of steam in the last mile, training fitness is not race fitness, however it was good to be able to turn out and avoid injury added to which it was a great weekend for the red shirts, Wales and Liverpool.

To date I am not quite sure of the total turnout for the race but on a rough guess there must have been around 130/150.

Neill (Owen) had an excellent run finishing in 48 mins, Dave Owen continuing his good form in 58 mins, your truly in 60 mins.

Hi Everyone.
This is another appeal for your help. With the Marsh Tracks 5k this Friday (March 2nd) we are in urgent need of prizes. Instead of giving trophies or cash we decided to have an open table of donated prizes for runners to take their pick of what’s on offer – but only three members have donated anything so far!
So please try to come up with something – leftover Christmas presents, a spare bottle of wine, six-pack or even a home-made cake, which always prove popular.
We’d appreciate if you could let us know in advance what you’re bringing.
Thanks, Gareth

The following message was received by Gareth from David A Williams, Secretary of the North Wales Cross-Country Association:
Dear Gareth
Just a quick word to thank everyone at Prestatyn Running Club for their tremendous efforts to ensure the success of the Rhug Organic North Wales Cross-Country Championships at Corwen on January 28th, 2012.
For a third successive year your club members, with a little help from volunteers representinbg other clubs from the region, have done us proud and everyone was full of praise for the organisation of the event.
The venue has proved to be an excellent spot for cross-country running with the perfect weather conditions this year making it even better than usual.
It was particularly pleasing that Welsh Athletics’ Steve Brace called in on his way home and he was thrilled with everything he saw and felt the venue was perfect for a national event.
No event can be perfect if the organisation prior to the day and support on the chosen afternoon is not done properly but Prestatyn Running Club have shown once again that they always do everything properly.
I would wish to thank you personally for being at the helm from start to finish and giving up so much of your time to ensure the event’s success but as you and I always say, you must have support in order to succeed.
The North Wales Cross-Country Association is again hugely grateful to Prestatyn Running Club for their support and I would ask you to let your members know at your next meeting that we appreciate all their efforts on our behalf. Diolch yn fawr.”

Many thanks to all those members who turned up to help at the North Wales Championships in Rhug. I’m sure you would all agree that the meeting was another huge success and the weather also helped to make it that much more enjoyable. Special thanks to Chief Marshal Dave Henley who took over so capably from Jason, but everyone played a part in enhancing the club’s established reputation for making a good job of staging such events. The feedback from athletes and officials has once again been tremendous, with at least 2 or 3 experienced athletes who had not been to Rhug before saying it was one of the best courses they have run. Especially pleasing was the impact it had on Steve Brace, Director of Athletics Development for Welsh Athletics, who admitted he was very impressed and hinted that he would be happy to see a “major championship” at Rhug in a couple of years’ time. I’ve been telling him about its potential for a long time. Many thanks everyone – and also well done to those who took part. There are pics of the races on Gwynfor James’s “Sportspictures Cymru” website.

Here we are once again in the month of January looking forward to the forthcoming delights of Spring and Summer bringing forth much needed holidays,Olympics,BBQ s,the odd race here and there and plenty of sunshine. But hang on, we surely cannot consider these things until we have exposed ourselves to the brute of Winter weather at Rhug estate attired with our thermal underwear, woolly hats and a yellow bin bags with holes for heads and arms. So here I am at your mercy, this year I have agreed to be Chief Marshall with the dodgy knee and I am therefore pleading for help to make sure this event is an outstanding success once again. So if you are not running and available on the day for marshaling duties please reply to this email or let Gareth know so I can assemble a list of volunteers. If you know anyone else who would like to help please forward their name onto me as well.

Kind Regards

P.S. the “bell” will be making an appearance that day and I am looking for a suitable operator (no campanology experience required),

please apply on the day.
