Guilden Sutton 10k

Only four members were in competitive action at the weekend, and they were in three very different races. Helen Baxandall was the club’s only representative in this year’s Great North Run and she had a fine outing, clocking 2-04.04 for 14,048th place in a field of over 30,000.

Two members turned out in the Guilden Sutton 10k, Neil Owen finishing 38th in 40 minutes exactly and Des Davies 55th in 41.15. Meanwhile Chris Hayes once again took to the hills, this time competing in a 10k fell-race at Hathersage, in the Peak District. In a field of 135 he finished 42nd in 48.31.

Despite having spent time in hospital and struggling to regain fitness ladies’ captain Glenda Davies still leads the club’s Grand Prix.(see below)

Gareth Hughes Receives Award

PRESTATYN Running Club secretary Gareth Hughes received another surprise when he was presented with an award from Welsh Athletics at the weekend.

At a ceremony in Cardiff he received a trophy from the chairman of Welsh Athletics Lynette Harries after being nominated as Off-Track Official of the Year.

That was one of four categories for officials but only one could be chosen to go forward for the UK award in December – and Gareth was selected.

The UK ceremony, which will be attended by most of the sport’s big names, will be held in the Midlands in December.

Present at the Cardiff ceremony were almost all the members of the Welsh squad which will compete in next month’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
