Members in Action over the Weekend

TWENTY-NINE members of Prestatyn Running Club have been in competitive action over the past week, spreading their talents as far afield as Cheshire, Shropshire, Llanberis and Anglesey.

Thirteen women and eight men took part in the Chester half-marathon on Sunday, and most were pleased with their results.

The only prizewinner was the club’s oldest representative, Roger Harrison-Jones, who won the M75 class, while Matthew Anwyl was fourth in the M40 class.

There were several tussles among PRC members, with Paul Brandrick, Steve Caswell and Katie Brandrick all finishing with a second of each other. Alison Hill and Linda Williams also crossed the line together.

The race confirmed that Arwel Jones is over his spate of injuries, but Russ Cheetham was not so fortunate as Arwel passed him when he pulled up with a calf injury.

Gordon Jones Returning to Fitness

Also returning to fitness is Gordon Jones, who has to limit his training these days, but in the Port Sunlight 10k he clocked an excellent 37.57 to finish second in the M50 class.

George Nicholls made his annual trip to the Market Drayton 10k and finished 35th overall in 38.29.

Two members turned out in the Dinas Bran race in Llangollen, a 5-mile event involving 1,150 feet of testing climbs. Des Davies, still working his way back to fitness, clocked 44 minutes and Phil Jones was four minutes behind.

On Saturday vets Neil and David Owen were joined by Anna Lewis in the classic Moel Eilio fell-race at Llanberis and there were almost 10 minutes between the three. Neil finished 41st in 88.34, Anna was 62nd in 99.34 and David, who was third in the M60 class, was 72nd overall in 1-48.09.

The following day David was in action again, and again finished third in the M60 category in the inaugural Island half-marathon in Anglesey with a time of 1-47.54.

Sian Beck travelled to Wilmslow for her second triathlon in three weeks and finished as 16th woman and second in her class, with a time of 1-34.

Members are reminded that help is still needed for the Sun Centre 5k on May 23 and volunteers should contact either Shelley Ward, the chief marshal, or race organiser Gareth Hughes. The race again incorporates the North Wales 5k championships.
