Prestatyn Running Club's mother-and-daughter Cathy Wood and Rachel Jackson had cause for a double celebration at the weekend after they both set personal bests, though in very different competitions.
It was mum Cathy who had the outstanding result when she returned to Gwynedd for the Pen Llyn Winter Ultra, a 36-mile event starting and finishing in Llithfaen.
Cathy, who is in her element in such events, finished in 9-53.58, taking no less than one hour off her previous best for the course. Out of 169 finishers she was placed 113th, and 39th out of 69 females.
Meanwhile Rachel, who is also in good form these days, sliced 33 seconds off her pb in the Nova Parkrun.
A record 10 members of the club turned out in the first Dash in the Dark race in Llandegla Forest, with joint off-road captains Gareth Jones and Lee Bailey leading the squad home.
The placings were: 16 Gareth Jones 32.10, 21 Lee Bailey 33.10, 34 Ben Thomas 35.38, 43 Marc Jones 37.40 (1st M60), 81 Ali Reid 45.10, 101 Jo Lewis 51.52 (3rd L50), 111 Nicki Triggs 57.58, 114 Jo Edwards 58.55, 123 Debbie Jones 71.00, 124 Clare Manley 71.00.
A total of 28 members were in Parkrun action on Saturday at 10 different venues as far afield as Southport, Shropshire and Canada. In Calgary runners were advised "to keep an eye open for the odd deer or coyote".
On home ground Alex Ryder continued his successful series of runs in the Nova Parkrun which has seen him finish in the top three places in the last four events.
