The Bank Holiday meant that there was quality and quantity in the Nova Parkrun as runners came from far afield. Not only were there over 300 participants, but 16 finished inside 20 minutes, one of the highest percentages ever achieved. Promenade running may be flat and often fast, but strong winds over the past week presented a real challenge for competitors in local events. First members of Prestatyn Running Club to face the experience were Oliver Birch-Jones, Ben Thomas and Nicki Triggs, who travelled to the Wirral for the first in this year’s Seaside 5k series in Leasowe. The Reds were in great form outside the Blues’ stadium in Liverpool on Sunday – the Reds in question being the members of Prestatyn Running Club.  A record 17 members were among the nearly 12,000 participants who lined up  Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium for the Liverpool half-marathon and all had good reason to be pleased with their performances. Two Parkrun milestones, one podium place and a great turnout of volunteers were among the varied successes of Prestatyn Running Club at the weekend. Three individual golds, one individual bronze and one team silver was Prestatyn Running Club’s haul of medals from the North Wales cross-country championships at Bangor on Saturday. The weather was the undoubted winner at the weekend when several local Parkruns on New Year’s Day and Saturday had to be cancelled. The days of putting one’s feet up and gorging oneself over the Christmas break are a thing of the past for most members of Prestatyn Running Club and some even took the opportunity to get a couple of extra races under their belt. As the year draws to a close the progress made by Prestatyn Running Club gives real cause for optimism in 2026. On the road, country and fells the results have been extremely encouraging, and the club committee learned recently that membership has now reached 141, the highest figure since over 20 years ago, when the membership included juniors.
