Press Report - 8th December 2025

Prestatyn Running Club’s hopes of a double promotion are still high after a superb all-round performance on Sunday.

After the second fixture of the Borders Road-Running League on the Mon Track in Anglesey both the men’s and women’s teams are second in Division 2, the women having come first on the day despite some absentees.

As well as the overall team results there were some hugely encouraging individual performances, notably that of young debutant Thomas Gregory-Watkiss. It was also good to see Gordon Jones making a return – albeit a gentle one – after a lay-off with injuries.

The placings were: 9 Steve Skates 27.20 (2nd M45), 23 Tony Wood 28.29, 44 Aled Hughes 29.19, 69 Darren Blazier 31.22, 90 Dafydd Montgomery 32.34, 93 Thomas Gregory-Watkiss 32.41, 95 David Hudd 32.47, 97 Matty Smith 32.50, 98 Lewis Pierce 32.51, 114 Marc Jones 33.31 (3rd M60), 119 Tom Coen 33.44, 153 Ben Thomas 35.49, 164 Judah Eastwell 36.10, 171 Emma Collins 36.42 (2nd L60), 184 Nem James 37.16, 190 Tony Benton 37.47, 191 Gordon Jones 37.53, 192 Meg Lewis 37.55, 202 Helen Ashworth 38.31, 205 Ed Shirt 38.43, 208 Tilly Jones 38.54, 212 Paul Robson 39.13, 217 Beth English 39.18, 225 Andy Thomas 39.42, 243 Neil Davidson 40.52, 266 Patrick Haberland 43.11, 267 Sue Hughes 43.13 (1st L65), 282 Nicki Triggs 45.00, 291 Martin Cortvriend 47.15, 292 Helena Cox 47.15, 293 Liz Martin 47.32, 302 Grahame Shone 48.25 (1st M75), 305 Claire Manifold 49.47.

Keeping up with the Joneses, especially off-road captain Gareth Jones, proved virtually impossible for fellow competitors at the weekend.

Clubmate Marc Jones completed three races in 48 hours and though Gareth did one less it was a tremendous performance.

On Friday he led an 11-strong squad home in the second race in the Dash-in-the Dark trail race in Llandegla Forest.

On Sunday he then took on the Sea-to-Summit Marathon from Prestatyn along the Offa’s Dyke trail to Clwyd Gate, near Llanbedr. Conditions underfoot were very tricky in places but Gareth won the race in 4-50.30, taking about 13 minutes off his course pb.

The members’ placings in Llandegla were: 12 Gareth Jones 32.45, 15 Lee Bailey 33.49, 29 Marc Jones 38.04 (2nd M60), 40 Rachel Jackson 42.23, 45 Nem James 45.00, 63 Cathy Wood 58.31 (2nd L60), 65 Sue Hughes 60.21 (3rd L60), 66 Jo Edwards 60.22, 68 Emma Birchall 65.01, 69 Julie Evans 65.02, 70 Clare Manley 65.03.

A total of 25 members were in Parkrun action on Saturday including Marc Jones, who sandwiched it between the Llandegla run the previous evening and Sunday’s Borders Road-Running League race.

The Nova results were: 5 Dafydd Montgomery 20.08, 16 Alex Ryder 22.10, 29 Reg Jonas 24.24, 31 Jenna Bagnall 24.33, 32 Lewis Pierce 24.41, 34 Andy Thomas 24.54, 35 Meg Lewis 24.55, 36 Marc Jones 24.58, 38 Owem Gibson 25.00 (pb), 39 Judah Eastwell 25.05, 40 Tilly Jones 25.08, 45 Neil Davidson 25.52, 48 Mark Dakeyne 26.52, 66 Ann Claire Jones 29.07, 70 Casey Blake 29.45, 71 Claire Manifold 29.47 (pb), 100 Claudia Smith 33.55, 134 Roger Harrison-Jones 43.45, 141 Martin Cortvriend 55.14, 145 Nicki Triggs 66.27, 146 Ben Thomas 66.29.
