With an almost clear racing calendar it was left to Parkruns to fill the weekend gap for most local athletes – and members of Prestatyn Running Club took full advantage of the opportunity. Twenty-six turned out in the local Nova event, constituting more than a tenth of the total line-up, and there were some very interesting results. Jonah Armstrong, in excellent form at the moment, was second overall, with Jamie Betts, who is quickly getting back to peak condition, just seven seconds behind. In 10th place Dafydd Montgomery produced yet another pb, his fifth in successive weeks, while Leah Hughes took almost a minute off her time the previous week. Lower down the field there was a fascinating tussle between two of the club’s 65-year-olds. New recruit Neil Davidson was chased all the way by Reg Jonas but managed to keep ahead, setting a pb in the process.
Placings: 2 Jonah Armstrong 19.12, 3 Jamie Betts 19.17, 7 Oliver Birch-Jones 19.51, 10 Dafydd Montgomery 20.01 (pb), 13 Cam Askan 20.50, 15 Marc Jones 21.03, 18 Dave Ellis 21.34, 19 Leah Hughes 21.45 (pb), 23 Eve Manifold 22.11 (pb), 24 Ed Shirt 22.25, 25 Tim Cahill 22.27, 40 Andy Clark 23.54, 42 Meg Lewis 24.01, 53 Will Lines 24.57, 63 Neil Davidson 25.55 (pb), 54 Reg Jonas 26.02, 71 Martin Gill 26.49, 74 Jo Lewis 27.16, 86 Rachel Jackson 27.57, 97 Debbie Weedman 29.17, 98 Steve Weedman 29.17, 103 Grahame Shone 29.39, 116 Mike Davis 30.37, 144 Karl Martin 33.15, 180 Julie Evans 41.26, 186 Steve Hatfield 44.34.

Vicar Water (Mansfield): 236 Claudia Smith 30.59.
The only race in the region at the weekend was the Conwy fell- race, only five miles long but involving two or three steep climbs and slippery descents.

Conditions were good and the views outstanding, so the three Prestatyn members who took part enjoyed the experience. Gareth Jones finished 39th in 57.47, Sophie Johnson 100th in 81.50 and Nicki Triggs 109th in 95.36.
Next Saturday (8th) sees the final fixture in the David Alun Williams North Wales Cross-Country League in Oswestry, providing the final opportunity this season for some of the more recent club recruits to have a go at the discipline – and enjoy the traditional excellent refreshments afterwards.
