Christmas came a few days early for Prestatyn Running Club’s committee member Nem James in the form of a massive personal best. He was one of 10 members who took part in the Ruthin Parkrun in support of the “Feel, Find, Mind” breast cancer awareness campaign and produced a remarkable run. He finished 24th overall in 24.08, which was almost two minutes faster than his previous best for the course.

Other placings were: 13 Marc Jones 21.24, 47 Ally Reid 26.32, 50 Sue Hughes 26.51, 64 Mandy Cartwright 27.59, 67 Sophie Johnson 28.12, 83 Lesley Furneaux 30.45, 86 Emma Birchall 32.01, 95 Clare Manley 33.11, 101 Julie Evans 38.56.

The only other member to claim a pb at the weekend was Darrell Jones, whose times have come down dramatically in the few months since he joined the club. In the Nova Parkrun he finished 12th overall in 22.24. Other results were: 4 Jamie Betts 19.27, 13 Daniel Williams 23.24, 21 Dafydd Montgomery 25.57, 24 Martin Gill 26.38, 25 Martin Cortvriend 26.43, 32 Mark Dakeyne 27.23, 83 Simon Bonfield 44.18.

Other Parkrun results:- Nant-y-Pandy: 19 Andy Clark 26.43, 35 Debbie Weedman 32.31.

Sherwood Pines: 187 Claudia Smith 30.50.

The latest “Piece of String” fell-race around Moel Fammau proved to be 4.24 miles long, and the only Prestatyn member in the line-up was Cathy Wood, who was rightly pleased to finish 39th out of 72 starters in 53.01.

Many of the older members will be saddened to hear of the death of Roy Aspden, who was a popular member of the club in the 1980s and 90s. At one stage he, his wife Eileen, Son Jason and daughter Adele were all members, and in 1988 he was elected as Member of the Year.
