Gareth's Press Report - 13th September 2026

Once again the red vests of Prestatyn Running Club have been seen far and wide as members compete in events, including three different half-marathons, as far afield as Spain, Newcastle, Cheshire and Anglesey.

A smaller group than usual made the annual trip to Mojacar in Spain where the running is incidental to socialising. In the 5k run, held in a 30degree heat,  Nem James clocked 29.07, and was followed by Ben Thomas and Nicki Triggs in 31.29, his brother Rich in 33.42, and then Duncan Longley and Julie Evans in 41.07. In the 3.9k run Suzanne Evans clocked 40.37.

Two members joined the massive 60,000-strong field in the Great North Run, Zack Webster finishing in 1-44.46 and Tilly Jones in 1-58.24.

On a fast course near Macclesfield Ben Lewis and Robert Grima turned out in the Cheshire Half-Marathon and finished in 1-25.12 and 1-32.01 respectively.

Andy Scott was also in action in Cheshire, but in the 16k Delamere Forest trail race, in which he finished in 1-45.

The Beaumaris Runfest featured two races, and the Prestatyn club had one representative in each. In the 10k Geraint Blackwell was 38th overall in 55.55, while in the half-marathon Katie Newe was 20th in 2-32.35.

Elsewhere, members turned out in eight different Parkruns, Alex Ryder winning the Flint Castle event in 18.51 after leading all the way.

Over the weekend the club had a strong presence at the 10 Or Less event at Bodrhyddan Hall and on Sunday organised a 5k run around the park where, in January, the club will be hosting the North Wales cross-country championships.

The draw for the single club place in next year’s London Marathon will be held after the club run on October 5, with a record 20 “hopefuls” entering the lottery.
