Prestatyn Running Club’s Gareth Jones likes the North Wales coast more than most – and with good reason. Last week he completed a remarkable hat-trick when he finished second in the 100-kilometre race from Prestatyn to Bangor. It was his third successive podium place in the event, having won it in 2023 and 2024. This time he completed the course, which included some diversions such as to Llandudno’s West Shore, in 12 hours 32 minutes and 3 seconds.

Only two club members took part in the fifth race in the Tuesday Evening Series of fellraces at Pen Dinas, Nant Peris. Though the shortest race in the series, it is also severe and straight up-and-down. Lee Bailey continued his fine series, coming 15th in 30.53, with Mark Dakeyne 86th in 44.52.

It was the heat rather than the gradient which Julie Evans had to contend with last week. On holiday in Nice, she competed in the resort’s 10k, finishing in 1h 22m.

Nicki Triggs was also the club’s sole representative in another coastal run, the third race in the Seaside 5k series on the Wirral. It was hotter than usual, and Nicki came 292nd in 27.15.

Four members chalked up personal bests in the weekend Parkruns. In the Nova event on home ground three of the club’s men finished in the top 10 and Eve Manifold was the first female home.
