A bout of flu meant that Prestatyn Running Club’s Daniel Williams was not very optimistic about his chance of having a decent run in Saturday’s Twin Piers 10 from Llandudno to Colwyn Bay, but he shook off the effects to chalk up a double success,
Though he was well outside his pb he won the M40 class in both the North Wales championship and the open race. It was his first regional title.
Another double medallist was Tim Cahill, who picked up bronze in the open and championship M60 category. Two other members, Ally Reid and Darrell Jones, narrowly missed podium places in their respective classes.
The club results were: 30 Daniel Williams 38.39, 37 Lee Bailey 39.41, 89 Darrell Jones 45.17, 104 Tim Cahill 46.33, 146 Andy Clark 50.03, 151 Ally Reid 50.46, 164 Helen Ashworth 51.49, 168 Zack Webster 52.16, 233 Andy Scott 60.42, 238 Debbie Weedman 61.03, 262 Alan Jones 64.52.
It was not surprising that Andy Scott’s time was well down on his usual as earlier in the day he had raced in the Alyn Waters 5k trail race at Gwersyllt, which had been postponed previously due to bad weather. He clocked 30.09.
Earlier in the week six members took to the hills for one of the region’s most unusual events – The Horse handicap race in the Clwydian Hills, and starting from Cilcain.
Conditions were ideal, with enough mud to add to the challenge. Individuals entries are not allowed, with competitors having to form pairs, trios or quartets.
Four’s Company, comprising Mandy Cartwright, Sophie Johnson, Ally Reid and Nicki Triggs, finished 27th in 2-14 (handicap time 1-44, while the Meandering Martins – Liz and Karl – were 32nd in 2-22 (handicap time 2-07).
Nineteen members joined a large field at the Nova Parkrun and two of them – Dafydd Montgomery and Eve Manifold – recorded pbs. Eve was the first lady home in 17th place overall.
