Hundreds of runners were disappointed when Sunday’s Helena Tipping 10 race in Wrexham was called off after a disagreement between the organizers and council, but Prestatyn Running Club’s supervet Martin Cortvriend simply looked elsewhere.
To maintain his fitness he entered the Hoylake Multi-Terrain Coastal 10k, and it paid off as he won the M70 class in 49.51, coming 66th overall.
Otherwise it was a quiet weekend, with fewer club members than usual participating in Parkruns.
While 12 turned out on home ground in the Nova Parkrun Zack Webster ventured much further afield, finishing 60th in the Toyen run in Oslo with a time of 25.23.
The only pb recorded was by Meg Lewis, who, the week before, had been among 60,000 participants in the Great North Run (see pic).
The placings were: 4 Dafydd Montgomery 19.05, 5 Alex Ryder 19.16, 8 Dan Williams 20.29, 11 Jamie Betts 20.58, 16 Lisa Lines 22.00, 18 Judah Eastwell 22.15, 23 Meg Lewis 22.54 (pb), 27 Chris Bennett 23.25, 37 Neil Davidson 23.58, 75 Gareth Hughes 27.09, 120 Paul Sanders 29.25, 144 Grahame Shone 31.14.
Conwy: 142 Andy Scott 29.15.
Meg was one of three members in the Great North Run. Dave Ellis finished in 1-24.02, one minute slower than last year, and Meg’s time of 1-48.09 was exactly two minutes slower than she clocked in the Liverpool Half in March this year. Helen Baxandall, currently a social member of the club, who runs the Newcastle event most years, finished in 2-49.27.
