Gareth's Press Report - 30th June 2024

Prestatyn Running Club teenager Oliver Birch-Jones turned in another highly impressive performance at the weekend, finishing second overall in the Olympic distance triathlon in Ellesmere.

The result details were not available at the time of going to press but 17-year-old Oliver was confirmed at having won his age-group.

Competing in the Sprint Tri at the same venue were Ben Thomas and Nicki Triggs, who seem unable to decide on their favourite surface or distance.

The previous weekend they took part in the UTMB Trail races in Snowdonia, Ben over 17 miles and Nicki 10, and then on Wednesday returned to the Wirral for the latest in the Seaside 5k series.

At Ellesmere on Sunday both finished in the top 10 in the open men’s and senior women’s classes respectively.

Their placings in the Seaside 5k, where the humidity was an important factor were: 168 Ben Thomas 23.49, 224 Nicki Triggs 27.28, 232 Gareth Hughes 28.46 (3rd M70).
