As the year draws to a close the progress made by Prestatyn Running Club gives real cause for optimism in 2026.

On the road, country and fells the results have been extremely encouraging, and the club committee learned recently that membership has now reached 141, the highest figure since over 20 years ago, when the membership included juniors.

The 141 comprises 82 men and 59 women and include first-claim, second-claim and social members. Almost every week there are new recruits, some of them returning to the club after lengthy spells away from the action.

The new order was highlighted in Saturday’s Nova Parkrun where Dafydd Montgomery and Jonathan Puleston-Jones, both of whom have signed up in the past year, finished in the first 10, the former claiming yet another victory.

The placings were: 1 Dafydd Montgomery 19.12, 8 Jonathan Puleston-Jones 20.30, 11 Oliver Birch-Jones 21.14, 14 Darrell Jones 21.18, 19 Jamie Betts 22.25, 30 Paul Robson 23.53, 33 Steve Weedman 24.01, 25 Lisa Lines 24.14, 39 Andy Thomas 24.37, 45 Will Lines 25.40, 54 Reg Jonas 26.18, 61 Mark Dakeyne 27.03, 82 Paul Sanders 28.40, 104 Nicki Triggs 29.55, 105 Ben Thomas 29.56, 106 Nem James 29.57, 127 Sue Hughes 31.07, 151 Debbie Weedman 33.26, 181 Clare Manley 42.29, 195 C;audia Smith 47.17, 205 Judah Eastwell 52.06.

Steve Skates, who is one of those who has returned to the club, continued his sparkling form in winning the Greenfield Valley Parkrun, setting a new pb of 17.51. At the same venue Debbie Jones was 40th in 29.44.

Other Parkrun results were:- Wepre: 66 Ann Claire Jones 35.27, 69 Helen Alefounder 35.41, 87 Julie Evans 47.46.

Park in the Past (Hope): 49 Andrew Carter 28.34 (pb).

Llandrillo yn Rhos: 130 Martin Cortvriend 25.28.

King’s Lynn: 136 Ed Shirt 26.39.

Ruthin: 41 Gareth Hughes 26.34.

Another member in very good form of late is Rachel Jackson. She was the only member to turn out in the Festive Piece of String trail race in the Clwydian hills, where runners did not know in advance how the course would be. Rachel finished a superb 12th overall, second lady and first in her L40 class, clocking 1-31.05.
