Prestatyn Club Members who staged Saturday's Parkrun - Gareth's Press Report - 14th October 2024

The red tops of Prestatyn Running Club were more prominent than ever at Saturday’s Nova Parkrun as the club took over the organisation of the event. It was the second time for the club to give the regular marshals and helpers a well-earned weekend off but it also proved to be a productive recruitment move. It also served to promote the Feel, Find, Mind breast cancer awareness campaign. The club also took charge of Sunday’s Junior Parkrun in which several of the youngsters were offspring of senior members. In addition to the 21 club members on duty on Saturday eight were among the 180 who competed in the run,

 They were: 3 Oliver Birch-Jones 19.30, 9 Jamie Betts 21.36, 16 Steve Weedman 23.24, 30 Ann Claire Jones 25.05, 69 Andy Clark 28.38, 82 Debbie Weedman 29.45, 179 Suzanne Evans60.01 (Parkwalker).180 Julie Evans 60.02 (Parkwalker).

Ten years after he last ran there Martin Cortvriend turned out in the Mitchelton Parkrun in Queensland, Australia. He finished 63rd overall and his time of 23.35 was just two minutes down on his 2014 time when he was in the M60 class.

Other Parkrun results:- Greenfield Valley: 2 Tom Carter 18.22, 29 Debbie Jones 29.54, 31 Cathy Wood 29.56.

Fletcher Moss (Didsbury): 119 Sophie Johnson 27.08, 174 Mandy Cartwright 29.04.

The corrected times in last week’s Cardiff Half-Marathon are: 975 Jamie Betts 1-29.53, 2,114 Marc Jones 1-35.06 (Pb), 5,829 Meg Lewis 1-54.02, 10,511 Ben Thomas 2-05.45, 11,108 Nicki Triggs 2-08.25, 15,508 Nem James 2-23.17, 15,970 Lesley Furneaux 2-26.36, 18,087 Emma Birchall 2-39.40, 19,760 Julie Evans 2-58.31, 21,445 Suzanne Evans 3-22.52.

Just two weeks after the opening fixture of the David Alun Jones North Wales Cross-Country League this Saturday brings the second round in Wrexham. It is hoped that the senior men will field a full team this time and that the women will once again be out in strength.

The M65s team finished third in Colwyn Bay but with Martin Cortvriend missing this time they will do well to hold the position.
